Serai, Paradigm Mall

Whenever we go to Paradigm Mall, we almost always go to either Plan B or Goku Raku Ramen for our lunch. For a change, we decided to try out Serai, and lunch turned out to be pretty good. The menu here is a mix of Asian and Western dishes.

I ordered the nasi lemak pandan (RM18) which comes with aromatic coconut and pandan rice, ayam goreng berempah, prawn sambal and condiments such as ikan bilis, peanuts, cucumber and boiled egg. We enjoyed this, especially the chicken which was flavorful and juicy - Baby D especially kept asking for more of the chicken :)

Hubby had the Nasi Campur Serai (RM25) which comes with white rice, served with rendang tok tenderloin, sambal petai prawns, kerisik ikan, crispy kangkung, salted egg and Serai's signature sambal belacan. As Hubby doesn't like petai, he requested to exchange it with sambal prawns. I tried some of the rendang tok, and it was pretty good.

For dessert, the kids picked the Oreo cheesecake (RM15.90) - rich and creamy, not bad at all.

Before lunch - trying on funny glasses

And that is just one of many ways we amuse ourselves during the weekend ;)

Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon: Spongebob Squarepants + Cubes Pizza

Our kids' eyes always light up whenever Sunway Lagoon is mentioned. We might as well make full use of our annual pass before it expires. We spent most of our morning at the new Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon - yes, it is fast becoming our favorite spot at Sunway Lagoon. Lots of fun water slides, and the seating area connected to it is shaded and pretty cooling. We have yet to check out the Slime Deluge which happens everyday at 4pm, but will do one of these days.

One of the highlights of this visit is the Meet & Greet sessions, first with Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick (12pm), followed by Dora the Explorer and her fuzzy friend, Boots (12.30pm). They also have Meet & Greet with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles later in the afternoon.

Hello Spongebob and Patrick!

Give me a fistbump, Spongebob!

With Dora & Boots

Since we were hungry, we grabbed some pizza from Cubes Pizza, which is located next to the Meet & Greet area at Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon. We went for these four flavours - Hula Hawaiian, Loaded Pepperoni, Quattro Formaggi, and Vegetarian and they were all yummy. We read that the dough is hand kneaded daily. We also had the chicken wings, which tasted decent but slightly on the skinny side.

Open daily from 10am to 6pm. Ample parking spaces available at adjoining Sunway Pyramid shopping mall.

Location: Sunway Lagoon, 3, Jalan PJS 11/11, Bandar Sunway, 47500 Selangor Darul Ehsan,
Malaysia.

GPS Coordinates:3.073498, 101.605784

Game Review: Horlicks NutriQuest

I'm sure by now you have all heard the news that the evil Dr Greedy is actively trying to stop children from being Tall, Strong and Sharp by taking over the Horlicks factory and henceforth depriving kids of Horlicks, a source of 23 vital nutrients for growth and development.

We downloaded the Horlicks NutriQuest game a few weeks ago and have allocated 1 hour after dinner each day combining our efforts as a family to unlock as many levels as we can.  Hubby has continued playing some evenings even after the children are in bed to surprise them the next day with his progress.

To take on Dr Greedy in the game, you can play as one of these four heroes - the friendly Damien, brilliant Omair, sporty Akin and the quick-witted Ida or customize the character to look like yourself.

Horlicks NutriQuest Main Menu

The game is definitely very playable and seems to have fulfilled the design criteria of engaging children and providing them with information regarding the important role nutrients play in their development. By playing this game, it also encourages our children to think of the best strategies to complete each level as well as stimulate their cognitive activities.

Tip from #BabySumoKids:
There are lots of useful information in the Handbook in the Main Menu. We strongly advise you to refer to the handbook as you progress through the game.

The Quest will take you through 3 different zones - City, Jungle and Factory, with 10 levels in each zone. The aim is to navigate through all the obstacles in your path, while collecting coins and if possible, collecting stars and hidden trophies along the way.

Tip from #BabySumoKids:
Initially focus your efforts on passing the level, collecting as many coins as you can.  The coins can be used to upgrade your skills and health (number of lives available).  After you have familiarized yourself with the level and boosted your coins collection/upgraded yourself, you can repeat the level to search for the stars and the trophies, as well as collecting more coins.

You will encounter Tall, Strong and Sharp boosters while playing the game. Use these to your advantage to make progression to the next level easier.

The Tall booster will enable you to jump higher allowing you to climb onto higher platforms to progress and to collect stars/coins/other boosters.

The Strong booster will allow you to smash through some walls and throw boxes further.  In some levels you will not be able to finish the level unless you find and use the Strong booster.

The Sharp booster will allow you to extend your time in the "Virtual Reality" world.

Tip from #BabySumoKids:
The Virtual Reality world is entered by pressing the JoyStick icon that will appear when you stand next to the arcade machine.  Often, you will find keys in the Virtual Reality world that will unlock escalators/elevators allowing you to progress once you go back into the city, jungle or factory zone.  It is definitely worthwhile using the Smart booster to explore the Virtual Reality world.

If you are keen to enter the 4th Dimension but impatient to collect all the coins from NutriQuest gameplay, it is possible to purchase one of the limited edition Horlicks packs containing NutriCoins. With every purchase of a 200g Horlicks pouch, you are entitled to ONE NutriCoin, 400g pouch or 440g Horlicks jar to TWO NutriCoins and 1kg of Horlicks pack to THREE NutriCoins.

Each NutriCoins unique code can be used to unlock the 4th Dimension World and additionally the NutriCoins can also be used to redeem awesome Horlicks NutriQuest prizes (keychain, baseball cap, watch), essential items this school holidays for all NutriQuest players.  You can redeem the prizes via this website here.

To summarize, each level must be completed by reaching the podium marked with a flag at the end of that level.  Once the first 10 levels are completed, you can only unlock Level 11 if you have collected enough stars and similarly at Level 20. The game will alert you as to how many stars you still require when you attempt to play level 11 or level 21 respectively. You will need to go back and play the preceding levels to collect more stars before you can advance.

Tip from #BabySumoKids:
To defeat the Crank Tank on Level 10 you will have to climb up all the platforms to get the Yo-Yo before attacking the Crank Tank.  To defeat the Slazer on Level 20 you will have to get the Smart booster then enter the virtual world to activate the Canon to attack the Slazer.

We are currently working on our strategy to defeat Dr Greedy on Level 30. Despite reaching Level 30 we have only discovered 5 hidden trophies, let us know if you find more :-)

You can connect with other NutriQuest gamers and NutriQuest game developers on Horlicks Facebook page for assistance, helpful hints and tips.

Download the games here with Google or Apple app store. For more info on Horlicks NutriQuest, please visit https://www.horlicks.com.my/nutriquest

The Horlicks School Education Programme will also be visiting 100 schools to bring fun and excitement through an educational approach. Students will be taught how to conduct fun science experiments by being taller, strong and sharper and defeat Dr. Greedy!

Recipe: Baked Curry Puff with Puff Pastry

A couple of weeks ago, we were at the supermarket and our kids found curry puff (karipap) crimpers in the household / kitchen aisle and asked if they could get two of them. So, we did and for dinner that night, we made dry chicken curry with potatoes, keeping in mind to make extra so that we have leftovers for our curry puff wrapping session post-dinner.

Baked curry puff (using puff pastry)

Curry puff is one of our favorite Malaysian snacks. It can either be deep fried or baked, and no prize for guessing which cooking method I went for. So, for the curry puff shell, we used store-bought frozen puff pastry. Using the Kawan brand square puff pastry, we rolled out each sheet, big enough to make 2 curry puffs each. The kids would then place a sheet of puff pastry over the crimper, and then fill one side with a tablespoonful of dry chicken curry with potato filling. Then, the crimper is folded over and pressed to crimp. And viola, homemade curry puffs! They are then baked in the oven for about 10-11 minutes until golden brown.

This was definitely a fun kitchen activity with the kids and we were very pleased with our homemade curry puffs. What made our puffs extra special is the fact that it is homemade with love :)

Watch this video on how to make curry puff using puff pastry - it's so easy! (watch in full screen here)

Oven-baked curry puff (using puff pastry)
Recipe by Baby Sumo
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Makes 10-11

Ingredients
5 no frozen 10x10cm square puff pastry
1/4 quantity of dry chicken curry with potatoes (see recipe here)

For the egg wash
1 egg
1 tbsp milk

1. Allow frozen puff pastry to defrost at room temperature for about 3-4 minutes.

2. Dust some flour over the puff pastry. Using a rolling pin, roll the puff pastry until it is thinner and about 18-20cm in length (each sheet should make two curry puffs).

3. Place the puff pastry on the 9-cm curry puff crimper, then fill one side with 1 tablespoonful of curry chicken with potatoes. Bring the crimper together, and press to crimp. Remove excess pastry with your hands.

4. Remove the curry puff from the crimper and place on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Repeat until all puff pastry is used up. Before placing in the oven, brush the puff shell with egg wash on both sides.

5. Preheat oven to 210C (no fan).  Bake in preheated oven for 10-11 minutes, until the curry puffs are golden brown. Remove and allow to cool for 10 minutes. Serve.

Trick Eye Museum, Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore

On our last day in Resorts World Sentosa, we visited the popular Trick Eye Museum. Trick Eye Museum started off in Hongdae in Seoul, South Korea in 2010 and the Singapore branch was opened in 2014. Trick Eye is short for Trick of the Eye, which refers to an art technique called Trompe-l'oeil that turns two-dimensional paintings into three-dimensional images through the use of optical illusions. 2D paintings on the museum walls, floors and ceilings appear to pop out of the surface and come to life.

There are 6 family-based zones to be explored here. It is an interactive 3D museum, so visitors are encouraged to participate and pose in the photos. Our whole family, especially our kids had fun posing for photos here! We had to make different facial expressions based on the scene and put our "acting" skills to good use. If you have a few hours to kill, it is definitely worth checking this place out.
