The menu is peppered with intriguing elements. Bar bites like chicken karaage come with tempting twists; the bite-sized meat is crisply crusted with crushed Mama instant noodles for a distinctive flavour and fragrance, served with watercress-infused mayo for a mildly herbaceous complement (RM18).
Pizzas also transcend the typical, taking on unconventional Asian influences. We had a Half & Half (RM29), with one side of Xinjiang Cumin Lamb (spiced minced lamb with spring onions and pickled red onions), the other of Southern Thai Pork (savoury ground pork with rocket leaves). Tasty stuff to pair with beer once Square 19 starts serving booze.
Square 19's duck breast is done decently, medium-cooked with enough juiciness to satisfy, bolstered by red curry puree for a playful kick, plus nicely layered, firm-to-the-bite Dauphinoise potatoes (RM38). But we'd skip the pork belly - the kitchen prepares it perfectly, punched up with a sweet soy sauce, buoyed by green apples, rounded out with an orzo short-cut pasta fritter, but the full-fleshed meat can't shake off the gaminess that permeates its centre (RM38).
