The 'Be Strong' Tiffin series is filled with nourishing traditional recipes and illustrated with symbols of our national heritage, reminding us to maintain the courageous strength of the tiger and to let our kindness bloom as beautifully as the hibiscus.
These Tiffin meals are available in four different sets for takeout or delivery from both of De.Wan 1958's branches in The LINC KL and Bangi Resort Hotel, starting at RM129 (the portion is suitable for sharing for two persons). Order at dewan.space
All the sets are appetising, but Tiffin Set B (RM158) might be our favourite, with Kerabu Pucuk Paku Salad (one of De.Wan 1958's most popular starters - fresh cockles and jumbo prawns with Chef Wan's special sambal belacan, potent with palm sugar and kerisik, buoyed by a squeeze of calamansi), Daging Rendang Selangor (premium grain-fed Australian beef made pleasurably spicy) and a Vege Dish of the Day (in this case, Sambal Goreng of glass noodles, bean curd skin (fuchuk), tahu and tempeh, stir-fried in sambal, a tribute to a southern Malaysian speciality that's similar to dry-style lontong).
Tiffin Set C (RM158) merits more than an honourable mention too - the vibrant colours of Malaysia are represented by the Kerabu Pomelo Salad (with plenty of pomelo with a light, refreshingly zesty asam boi dressing), Sambal Udang Petai (juicy tiger prawns, delivered fresh each morning to De.Wan 1958, so none of the seafood is ever frozen, well-balanced so that the heat complements the crustaceans) and a Vege Dish of the Day (Fresh Seasonal Vegetables come with cauliflower, broccoli, shiitake mushroom and carrots, stir-fried with garlic, served with chicken broth).
Vegetarians aren't forgotten: The Vege Tiffin (RM128) is filled with fibre in the form of Dalca Sayur with Acar Mangga (lentil curry with accompaniments including aubergine and potatoes), Stir-Fried Bendi (crunchy battered okra, multi-textured with onions, curry leaves and chilli) and the Vege Dish of the Day (Fresh Seasonal Vegetables with a vegetable soup), ensuring that meat-free meals remain interesting.
All sets come with Rice (choose two), including Nasi Bunga Telang (butterfly pea-tinged basmathi rice, long and separated grains), Nasi Telur Terengganu (a celebratory wedding dish on the east coast, laced with gizzard and egg floss) or Nasi Putih, plus Dessert (a variety of Malay Kuih such as seri muka, talam pelangi, kuih ubi bakar, cucur badak and potato curry puff) and Beverages (choose two) like Mint Lychee Soda, Kaffir Lime and Evian Mineral Water.
Note that the tiffin carriers can also be purchased on their own (big for RM60 or small for RM50).
