Park Chinois

New year special

Wagyu Beef Gyoza

Park Chinois has to be the poshest and most glamour Chinese restaurant in London. The fine-dining restaurant and club in Mayfair offer upmarket Cantonese based cooking, with some regional Chinese cuisine types mixing in. Park Chinois uses some of the best ingredients from around the world, ranging from wagyu beef from Japan to wild seabass from Chile. Headed up by chef Liang Koo Cheun, the cooking can also be pretty creative with a contemporary take on Chinese classics. For Chinese New Year, Park Chinois created a special menu that contains dishes that you would rarely find in the UK, but are considered iconic new year celebration dishes back in China.

Steamed Kamchatka King Crab, 10yr Wine, Rice Noodles
Steam wild turbot with shrimps and taro

As usual, I opted for the steamed king crab dish to kick off the meal, the wine aroma offered a well-balanced sweetness and bittiness, the crab itself was fresh and moist, just as I was expecting. Park Chinois' takes on the "wonton chicken" has uplifted this classic to a whole new level. The Poulet de Bresse chicken was poached masterfully, it was super tender and blessed with such a great depth of umami aroma and taste. The side of prawn wonton was also moist and had such a smooth, silky pastry layer. The semi wind-dried duck in potted rice was a proper winter comfort dish, the saltiness of the duck was perfect, and the rice absorbed all the wonderful flavours from the duck fat and ginger.

Potted Rice with Homemade Dried Duck

For my 9th visit to the restaurant, I had another top-notch meal, this place is easily the best Chinese fine-dining restaurant in London for me. It is hard to execute classic Chinese dishes, to do it really well and add a modern touch to take it to an even higher level. Somehow, Park Chinois has done just that. This really showcased the great experience the chef team has, as well as having the willingness to keep on learning and testing new ideas. This is why I am such a fan of the cooking at this restaurant. Ps, mind the poor quality pictures due to it was shot in a nightclub setting.
