PJ's new pasta paradise seeks to spark a ravioli revolution in Damansara Uptown, crafting hand-rolled classic varieties served in modern, witty fashions.
Popeye's Mistress is a masterful medley of toothsome taglierini - beautifully firm to the bite, buoyantly flavourful as egg pasta should be - with baby spinach (of course), balanced with garlic, shimeji mushrooms, zucchini and creamy-yolked egg for pasta that tastes triumphantly true to the essence of Italian traditions - not a bad bargain at all for RM15.90.
Fish On The Rocket (RM21.90) had the potential to be punishingly cloying, with fettuccine soaked in tomato cream sauce, but it springs a surprise - the fresh pasta does textural justice to Rome's culinary legacy, while the sauce is light and lively, rounded out with thick, tender slices of house-smoked salmon and just enough joy-sparking tobiko to merit a Tokyo rebel yell.
Unfortunately, the downside of freshly made pasta is that not everything on the menu is always available; the two pastas we initially wanted to order - matcha fettuccine in pesto sauce and ravioli stuffed with house-strained ricotta - were out of stock when we visited, but hopefully, Rebel Pasta will ensure a consistent supply soon.
