RAGE, Bangsar

Flat whites fused with oat, coconut or soy milk, matcha matched with sweet palm sugar or sour plums: Unconventional couplings are all the rage at Bangsar's new cafe for busy bees and social butterflies seeking a space for both work and play.

Caffeine cravers won't rage against the (espresso) machine here: Lattes and cappuccinos are currently capped at RM8 each, diversified beyond dairy with at least three choices of alternative milk - oat brings a smooth lusciousness with cereal-flavoured subtleties to your cup, while coconut feels a little lighter in texture but is more distinctively aromatic, without tasting too tropical. There's soy milk too, with other possibilities (nutty ones like almond, hazelnut or macadamia?) expected eventually.

RAGE's speciality coffee concoctions (RM10) beckon us to cool down, keeping tempers and temperatures in check with a Milo-spresso Dino (shaken, not stirred; creamy, not cloying), Espresso-Cado Shake (best paired with the Avo On Toast planned for a food menu to launch later this month) and Rage Gym Booster (for evenings when everything goes bananas).

If Make Mine Matcha is your rallying cry, try the Matcha Gula Melaka (with palm sugar and coconut flakes) or the Matcha My Asam (with asam boi), bursting with buoyant local notes to brighten up the green tea (RM10 each).

Don't look back in anger: For folks who've been seeing red, a neon-lit RAGE Room promises bean bags and a punching bag (complete with boxing gloves for budding Jake LaMottas and other raging bulls) for letting off steam.

Easy access to public transport means RAGE Bangsar is a convenient stop for mobile workers (communal tables come complete with power points). Several more outposts might open this year, in bustling locations like NU Sentral, Mid Valley, Damansara Heights, Mutiara Damansara, and near KLCC.

RAGE Social Club
