Wooing us with wicked whisky cocktails, this winsome new bar is a haven in the heart of Bukit Bintang, offering a comfortable sense of calm and cool on the seventh-floor mezzanine of the new Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Watch the mixologists of Whisky Cove conjure their cocktails at the bar, or take a table by the window with a shimmering view of the city surroundings, or for an evening of exclusivity, reserve one of three elegantly intimate private rooms. The first fresh-faced bar we've visited this year, Whisky Cove brings a bright start to KL's bar scene for 2019.
True to its name, Whisky Cove is the place primarily for single malts and blendeds, with everything from Irish to Islay, Japanese to Taiwanese whisky seizing the limelight - which means the cocktails are perfect for whisky worshippers too.
Potions here prove sultry and soothing, with plenty of potent complexities - start with the Smoked Pear Manhattan, imbuing a twist to the classic cocktail with its combination of infused Rittenhouse Rye, rich in nuances of fruits and spices, with pear syrup (all syrups are house-made at Whisky Cove), sweet vermouth, caramelised orange wheel and pear (RM45).
Highland Poney takes the smooth sherry lusciousness of Macallan 12 Year Old, synergising it with herb syrup, hydrated fruits, fresh lemon juice and egg white for dynamically balanced dimensions (RM40), while The Artistry is a masterwork of mixology, blending the buttery-nutty cinnamon notes of Michter's Sour Mash Whiskey with the Cognac uplift of Hennessy VSOP, Malibu, dark rum, orange skin and edible flowers (RM45).

For a perk-me-up that unites whisky with coffee, Kentucky Coffee Break kept us alert for hours, allying the caramel punch of Maker's Mark Bourbon with the caffeine kick of a double espresso, deepened by a syrup of orange and coffee beans, hydrated orange and a burnt cinnamon stick (RM40).
Beyond whisky, the cove's friendly bartenders, Freddey and Al, are talented enough to craft other cocktails of your choice, relying on your personal preferences - perhaps something sweeter, or a temptation with tang? Non-whisky cocktails are also available, so feel free to order, say, a Negroni or whatever else will make your night.
Many thanks to Whisky Cove for having us here.
