High-level modern European fine dining
Pork loin, belly, radish and potato |
Alyn Williams at the Westbury is slowly turning into one of my favourite restaurant in London for me. Leading the kitchen these days is head chef Tom Botoon, the cooking is exciting without going over the top, modern and clean, with some creative elements in the mixed. The restaurant has progressed steadily and retained its Michelin 1 star status in the 2019 guide. Many classic Alyn dishes are no longer in the menu with Tom really taking ownership with all the menu development. For my 5th visit, Tom has prepared a special tasting menu, offering new dishes that he is planning to launch in 2019.
Chicken liver parfait, lobster on seaweed cracker and cheese puffs |
Mackerel, apple, gun, rhubarb |
Halibut, lemongrass, shrimp, sea herbs |
The canapes have always been a strong offering from the kitchen and this time was no different. The lobster on a seaweed cracker was a pure sensation, as was the chicken liver parfait cigar. The star dish for me was the poached halibut with a killer shrimp and lemongrass sauce, so refreshing and aromatic in taste. The addition of sea herbs and shrimps delivered more umami flavour from the sea, it was such a well-executed fish course. Tom has somehow turned chicken and mushroom, a classic British dish, into something refine with an Asian twist. The chicken was seasoned perfectly, and the earthiness of the shiitake and black truffles enhanced the taste of the chicken brilliantly.
Chicken, mushrooms, truffle |
Yogurt parfait, apple |
Yeast ice cream, chocolate, hazelnut |
It was another top-notch meal at Alyn Williams at the Westbury, the cooking had flair and totally delivered in taste. What I really enjoyed is that all the dishes were pretty light but contained great tastes at the same time, I am a massive fan of this type of cooking. The service on the day top class, our wine sommelier did a fantastic job at suggesting the wines and both the white and red wine matched the food wonderfully. If you are up for a top quality fine dining experience without needing to sell your car, Alyn Williams at the Westbury really is a great choice for you.
