Tetangga Kita @ Hartamas Shopping Centre

Specialising in a popular street snack from our neighbouring nation of Indonesia, this new kiosk promises fresh, warm servings of the griddle pancake known in Indonesia as martabak, a cousin of Malaysia's apam balik.

The martabak is offered in a choice of sweet or savoury preparations, with the former available in two styles - thick and fluffy or thin and crisp. You can watch it being made immediately after placing your order.

Execution is authentic - one of Tetangga Kita's founders hails from Jakarta, and crew members come from Bandung and Aceh,

We tried a thick, indulgently soft martabak layered with Nutella and cheese (RM25, sufficient for three persons to share), as well as a thin version with green tea Kit Kat and cheese (RM17, ideal for two persons).

The fun fillings proved nicely proportioned - rich and creamy for the Nutella-cheese martabak manis, sugary-salty in a well-balanced way for the latter. All in all, certainly worth sampling.

Other sweet options include Red Velvet Oreo or Corn With Cheese, while savoury possibilities range from plain egg to a chicken stuffing (RM15-RM20).
