Baba Kuat Cafe @ Menara PJ8, Petaling Jaya

Baba Kuat's Seremban-born Peranakan founder Cheong Wai is flexing his culinary muscles with a sturdy selection of Asian-inflected rice bowl recipes at this likable little hideout - luscious salmon belly is combined with cucumbers, spring onions & a fried egg on a warm bed of sesame-sprinkled rice for a comfort-food lunch (RM20), while stir-fried clams come spiced up with a surreptitiously fiery chilli sauce, balanced with edamame & more egg for metabolism-moving fare (RM15). Take the bowl out to the leafy, contemplative second-floor courtyard of Menara PJ8 & savour this freshly prepared meal on one of the benches.
