Helmed by a revamped team of remarkably experienced chefs, Ming Palace ushers in its latest era with contemporary Chinese cuisine that channels Hong Kong inspirations.
We recently headed back to check out one of Ming Palace's recommended nine-course set menus, served at a reasonable RM98.80 nett per person, suitable for five to seven persons.
Dim sum is always a delight at Ming Palace - this set menu kicks off with the Chef’s Selection of 3 Dim Sum, showcasing the most popular crowd-pleasers of Siew Mai, Har Gao and Sesame Balls. Expertly crafted, the lusciously hot chicken and prawn dumplings are addictive!
The Soup of the Day is ever-evolving, brimming with the kitchen's top produce. For fans of soulful slurps, this chicken soup is a clear winner, hearty with clean-tasting, natural nuances that comfort the spirit and soothe the stomach.
Seafood enthusiasts, rejoice - both fish and prawns are represented on this menu.
Ming Palace's Steamed Tiger Grouper in Superior Soy Sauce is super-fresh with a firm but moist flakiness, lightly complemented by the delicate soy sauce.
Also on this menu are Honey Glazed Marmite Tiger Prawns that promise a rich, sweet-savoury flavour to ensure lip-smacking crustaceans.
Poultry pleasure, paired with tofu for a protein powerhouse: The Crispy Salt Pepper Tofu & Roasted Garlic Chicken Combination is a dynamic duo, fragrantly flavourful to the final bite.
The chicken is chunky and crisp-skinned, with meat that bursts with sharp garlicky aromatics, a surprisingly perfect partnership with the umami-loaded, subtly spiced tofu. Delicious!
We're instant fans of Ming Palace's royally captivating Crab Meat in Truffle Oil with Egg White & Homemade Egg Tofu - the crab is sweet and succulent, the egg tofu is silky-soft, while the truffle oil is gently understated, all coming together for a melt-in-the-mouth marvel.
Glorious greens: The Seasonal Vegetables with Garlic featured kai lan when we visited, juicy with a tender crunch, not overly greasy or soggy.
Ming Palace's Ginger Olive Fried Rice with Vegetables is beautifully balanced, with the ginger and olives coming together in subtle harmony to uplift the generous portion of grains, ensuring that everyone at the table leaves with satiated stomachs.
We love the sense of restraint in Ming Palace's cooking - every dish is prepared with precision, so that no flavours overpower each other.
Chilled Pumpkin Puree brings our lunch to a creamy, confident conclusion, earthy with pumpkin potency, cooling our palates after a princely feast.
We look forward to many more meals to Ming Palace in the future, still one of our favourite destinations in the city centre for pork-free Chinese fare. The space is also ideal for events like intimate wedding banquets, with a stage and other facilities to fit the special occasion.
