Time for taiyaki in the city centre: Old Hands Cafeteria has launched its latest location, opening in Shoppes at Four Seasons to complement its outlets in Petaling Jaya and Lot 10.

This newest home for Old Hands Cafeteria is a pop-up that slated to stay here until at least March - it's a lovely little hideout on the mall's second floor, calmly tucked near an art gallery, scarcely a five-minute stroll from KLCC.

If you crave a peaceful meal of authentic Japanese fare, Old Hands Cafeteria offers a convenient escape from the cosmopolitan bustle, without having to leave the heart of KL.

And for longtime Old Hands loyalists, you'll find more to explore here, including new flavours of taiyaki, as well as taiyaki colouring activities for the artistically inclined!

This modest setting serves up plenty of pleasures, with Muslim-friendly preparations that remain true to Japanese ingredients and inspirations. Most of the recipes are by a Shizuoka-born chef who first helped bring Old Hands Cafeteria to life in mid-2021.

From the start, Old Hands Cafeteria was an instant success for its Sanshoku Mochi (RM22) - this continues to be beloved across all its outposts, handcrafted with Japanese shiratamako fine glutinous rice flour for a smoothly elastic skin, stuffed with house-made red bean paste.

Another Old Hands highlight is the taiyaki, the Japanese street food cakes beautifully shaped like sea bream, freshly cooked in special moulded pans till the batter is golden-brown, crisp to the bite, gooey to the chew.

Old Hands Cafeteria has now introduced three new taiyaki flavours: Raku, Banana Chocolate and Sweet Potato (RM10 each).

Raku (Japanese for happiness) harnesses Old Hand's house-blended chocolate, perfect for patrons who love their chocolate deep and dark, a luscious, luxurious filling for the taiyaki.

Banana Chocolate uses a sweeter, milkier chocolate, melted with warm, mushy bananas for layers of playful monkey business concealed in fish-shaped fun.

Sweet Potato is gently earthy, more wholesome-tasting and less of a guilty indulgence.

For kids of all ages, as well as the young at heart, check out Old Hands' taiyaki colouring promotion in Shoppes - painting material is provided for you to colour non-edible, decorative taiyaki in your own personal style.

You'll find delightful displays here of colourful taiyaki as well as other arts and crafts by local talents, evoking the DIY artistic sensibilities of independent Japanese establishments.

Olds Hands Cafeteria pours an equal amount of love and care into its beverages.

The Matcha Latte & Anko (RM19) is a can't-fail combination, relying on Marukyu ground green tea leaves and house-made red bean paste.

The matcha has a toasty-smoky, bitter profile, sweetly balanced by red bean paste that takes eight hours to prepare, buoyed by the creaminess of fresh milk. A refreshing delight.

For something simpler, the Matcha Latte (RM16) is for purists who prefer the pristine potency of matcha. Other options include the nutty Houjicha with a caramel richness and Genmaicha that's distinctively aromatic with roasted rice kernels. Or sip the soothing Watermelon Milk (RM15) if you're steering clear of caffeine, smoothly mingling watermelon juice with milk.
