Bestow, Imbi

Behold, Bestow: This beautiful new restaurant confers a warm welcome and well-prepared fare to customers who’ll be curious to explore a timeworn Imbi space that stood abandoned for years.

A work in progress when we visited, with final touch-ups incomplete, floors unswept and furniture unsettled, Bestow and its friendly team will officially be ready for walk-ins next week, though eager cafe-hoppers will certainly pop by this weekend.

Snap your next Instagram shots out on the terrace, in the sunshine by the barista’s takeaway window, or in the interior courtyard, beside the Chinese banyan and Mexican sunflowers branching up to a vaulted, double-height skylight.

The space harmoniously blends what’s vintage and what’s in vogue. Part of this structure will eventually also house a boutique hotel/hostel.

Fun fact: The name ‘Bestow’ beguilingly came to the venue’s landlord in a dream.

Narrow steps lead to a stark platform that could be transformed into an upstairs bar once Bestow, now a daytime cafe, extends its hours past dusk.

Bestow’s show-runners graciously permitted us to order some food and coffee, though they were not formally open. The beef stroganoff is both hearty and soulful, tender and tasty, served with sourdough toast to mop up the rich, creamy sauce (RM36), while the coffee hits the mark for a morning pick-me-up.
