Oh Apong is poised to become a hot favourite for ice cream chilling when it opens in the near future - this cafe will churn out aiskrim gula apong, infused with Sarawak's nipah palm sugar, processed from the sap of coastal swampland trees.
Gula apong ice cream has been available for years in Sarawak; it has popped up in KL too - we first encountered it at a stall in Kampung Baru in 2017, splashed with gula apong syrup, naturally mellow instead of intensely saccharine. But Oh Apong's stylish setting looks set to propel this dessert to fresh peninsular popularity.
