Penang Kopitiam, Petaling Jaya

CKT with extra add-on options of cockles and crunchy lard? We couldn't resist ordering a delivery from PJ's Penang Kopitiam - the banana leaf char koay teow hits all the aromatic marks for sultry, satisfying wok hei, with the chu yau cha taking it to decadent new heights. We wish the cockles had been fresh though, but our search for non-frozen si ham in CKT often ends in disappointment these days.

The real revelations of Penang Kopitiam rest in two other George Town staples - the lor bak is marvellous, moist and moreishly marinated, while the uber-juicy rojak, complete with rich and robust hae ko shrimp paste, is more than good enough as an alternative to road-tripping to Gurney Drive.
