Triple the delight for mala enthusiasts: Chengdu-born Da Long Yi Hotpot has launched its third outpost in Malaysia, steaming up Bukit Bintang with a sultry Sichuan spice-fuelled experience.
Da Long Yi Hotpot now has two eateries in the Klang Valley - Bukit Bintang and Kota Damansara - and one in Sutera Mall Johor Bahru, bringing a full-bodied authenticity with soup bases flown in from China, finished in Malaysia with fresh ingredients everyday.
For the opening of the Bukit Bintang outlet, customers here can order a soup base for RM1 - a brilliant bargain that enables you enjoy even more meat and seafood for your hotpot!
Da Long Yi makes the flavours even more satisfying with its flagship dip that mixes garlic, chilli, oyster sauce, soy sauce, herbs and a house-made vegetable blending oil. It’s a sweet-savoury sauce that balances the mala heat perfectly, yielding a velvety richness to the meal.
Three other broth possibilities include the Mushroom Soup (earthy and umami-rich with pepper notes), Tomato Soup (with a sweet vegetable tang) and Winter Melon Chicken Soup (the most heartwarming and homemade-tasting choice). These can be ordered in a Twin Pot (regular price of RM43 for two soup bases) or a Tri-Pot (regular price of three soup bases for RM42).
Meat lovers must try the Marbled Beef Slices, terrifically tender with premium-grade bovine marbling (RM46 for 180g), and the Mala Beef, distinctively coated in chillies for meat with heat, best paired with the mala soup (RM18).
Prefer pork? The Pork Shoulder Slices (RM20) represent pure porcine pleasure. You can also relish the best of three types of offal with a platter of Beef Tripe, Duck Intestines and Pork Aorta (RM35).
All in all, the bounty of sea and land is equally available.
From ready-to-eat-in-three-seconds HK Ring Rolls (RM15) to silky-gelatinous Duck Blood (RM8), plus Napa Cabbage (RM8), Lotus Roots (RM10) and a Mushroom Platter with five kinds of mushrooms (RM20), Da Long Yi promises plenty of fun in every feast.
Wrap up your visit with Da Long Yi's sweet, chewy Brown Sugar Glutinous Rice Cake, a common dessert coupled with mala meals in China (RM15). You can also sip on China's own Harbin beer for pleasantly smooth chugging as you wade through the hot pot (RM18 per bottle, RM50 per bucket).

The Bukit Bintang branch is a grand, three-storey setting, with gorgeous artwork and grey brick walls for a nostalgic sense of timelessness.
