Michelle Young, Bukit Jalil

A visit to Bukit Jalil's new Michelle Young bakery-cafe in the morning is a blissed-out balm for the sweet-loving soul, with the scent of fresh-from-the-oven cookies and cupcakes in the air. While this space currently only offers takeouts and deliveries, it should eventually turn into a charming spot for teatime treats.

Banish those chocolate cravings with a choice of chocolate chip or triple chocolate cookies (RM12 each), plus a slice of dark chocolate sea salt cake (RM15). The cookies are chunky, the cake is thick, all dark, deep and dense, their moistness bordering on a fudgy lusciousness, with the sea salt helping to balance the sheer chocolate richness.

If you're picking only one of these three? Make it the chocolate chip cookie, loaded with creamy chips.

Our favourite cookie here is the S'mores, beautifully buttery with gooey marshmallows and crisp almonds making for a melty, moreish ensemble (RM12). The Matcha Nutella Hazelnut is the relatively unusual cookie, but it should work well for folks seeking a more uplifting cookie that still boasts a dash of decadence (RM12).

Other temptations include cupcakes stuffed with strawberry jam and capped with cream cheese (RM12) and scones with caramel sauce (RM6.50). Michelle Young also offers doughnuts in irresistible-sounding varieties like pistachio, corn, Nutella or vanilla, but unfortunately, those weren't ready when we visited.
