Take a bao: KL's new bao delivery service offers an appetising alternative to having burgers and pizzas at home, with fun recipes fired up with Szechuan spices, pepped up with pickled carrots and more.
We were nervous that the baos might not travel well, but The Bao Guys do a terrific job with preparation and packaging. After a 15-minute ride from their Segambut kitchen near Mont Kiara, our food arrived warm and fresh-textured. Bao wow, indeed.
Cluck Norris (RM8.90) also kickboxes its way to a crowd-pleasing win - crispy fried chicken, its crunch contrasting with creamy Japanese egg mayo, punched up with gherkins for a combo that's hard to beat.
Other options range from the full-fleshed Pho-King Good (RM10.90; braised lamb with tangy onion basil lime slaw and a hint of chilli) to the vegetarian-friendly Las Vegan (RM8.90; glazed fried oyster mushrooms with cucumber and carrot pickles) to the sweet finish of the Milky Way (RM5.90; mini baos drizzled with condensed milk).
All in all, The Bao Guys are worth checking out - each bao is loaded with well-balanced fillings that make smart use of Asian flavours, easy to polish off as a snack or light meal. More choices are poised to be introduced soon, so keep an eye on them.
Many thanks to The Bao Guys for this sampling.
