Perched in a bungalow on a residential hill, Tenggek Burung Cafe is the closest thing to a highland cottage retreat within a 15-minute drive of KLCC.
Tenggek's take on laksa Johor makes for a satisfactory lunch, drenched in fish gravy that's a little lighter than usual but no less tasty, prepared with Asian noodles instead of spaghetti (RM15.90).
The cafe bakes its own desserts - cranberry scones might seem like a natural selection (RM8.90; with butter and jam but no clotted cream), though the pengat durian cake is our best bet, a dense, creamy cake poured over with hot, richly aromatic pengat durian for a decadent-textured indulgence (RM16), downed with bottled kombucha in tropical flavours like mango or pink grapefruit.
