Slow Coffee, The Hub SS2

Fans of top-flight cafe fare should move fast to Slow Coffee, which pours plenty of confident culinary effort into its food.

Open-face sourdough sandwiches come layered with beetroot-flavoured hummus, avocado, ricotta, parmesan crisps and sun-dried tomatoes for bright, vibrant flavours and rich, pleasing textures, plus pea sprouts on the side (RM26); sliders are stuffed with kitchen-made prawn katsu, with the crisp cutlet concealing fresh morsels of sweet, smoothly juicy crustacean flesh, jazzed up with spicy aioli and shredded cabbage (RM28); barramundi is jerk-spiced, impressively moist and flaky, rounded out with quinoa, grilled peppers and mellow coconut sauce for a lovely lunch (RM30). Portions are modest, but quality seems ensured.

If these Japanese-inspired 'fuwa fuwa' souffle pancakes seem familiar, that's no surprise - Slow Coffee is spearheaded by the folks who run Happy Garden's Neighbour's Coffee Bar, which also specialises in these comfortingly warm pancakes. Here, they prove as fluffy-as-a-cloud as ever, contrasted with creamy, mild-tasting pu'er tea gelato (RM18). Even if you're here only for a coffee break, it's worth snacking on an avocado lime tart (RM15) and sipping on flat whites (RM12).
