Tucked away on the first floor of Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel is The Sultanate Kitchen & Coffee Bar, an independently run restaurant specialising in Arabic, Mongolian and Russian cuisine.
Other than the main dining area which can seat 100 pax, the restaurant also has 3 VIP private rooms and a coffee bar.
Restaurant interior
Out of the three, the Arabic menu is the most comprehensive, ranging from soups, appetizers, salads, BBQ and grill, tajine and desserts.
We had the Hummus (RM18), tabbouleh (RM22), prawn tagine (RM52) as well as lamb kebab (RM56), all of which were competently prepared.
Prawn tajine - one pot, warming dish with olives, potatoes and tomatoes.
Lamb kebab (RM56) - well-spiced, tender chunks of lamb meat served with bread and chips. One of our favourite dishes here.
You can also find the more unusual Mongolian and Russian cuisine here. From the Mongolian menu, you can find soups such as Bituu Shul as well as mains such as authentic Mongolian BBQ (khorkog) or dumplings. There is even khorkog with sheep head here!
We went for the buuz (RM32) - steamed dumplings, filled with onion, lamb and special spices.
Similarly on the Russian menu, you will find soups such as borscht (RM22) and solyanka, appetizers, main (beef stroganoff and plov) and dessert.
