Alyn Williams at the Westbury

Top notch modern European fine dining

Devonshire duck

To keep heading back to the same restaurant, I would say the restaurant has to be great value for money, and service has to be top notch too, especially for fine dining level. I only have such loyalty for a few restaurants in London, and Alyn Williams at the Westbury is one of them. The Michelin starred fine dining restaurant is slowly becoming a favorite of mine, I really enjoy the modern, light and fresh approach in its modern Europen/ French take on fine dining. Below are some of the highlights from my sixth and seventh visits.

Langoustine tail with shiso mayo
Crab tart and Scallop with grapefruit
Royal Siberian cavier
Native lobster tail, sauce Jacqueline
Poach halibut, chicken jus, celeriac
Grilled plaice, potato cream, clams

Langoustine tail with shiso mayo was a killer dish, I really enjoyed the smoky aroma and the natural sweetness coming from the shellfish. It was fresh in taste but had so much umami flavours at the same time. The pork jowl was a stunning meat dish, the meat had a melting texture, the crackling was done expertly with a crunchy texture to die for. The sweetness of the carrot somehow worked perfectly with the mild taste of the pork, I had nothing but love for it. The pigeon was another sensational dish, it was cooked and seasoned to perfection, the earthiness of the beetroot matched the gamey taste of the pigeon extremely well, and the addition of the grapes offered a touch of freshness which gave the dish a wonderful contrast.

Salad of white asparagus and feta
Chicken, mushroom, black garlic
Piegon, grapes, potato, beetroot
Pork jowl, carrot, girolles
Duck, onion, chicory
Raspberry and lime tartlet

For me, Alyn Williams' cooking quality has to be one of the very best if I compare to other 1 Michelin starred restaurants in London. The cooking was refined, light but full of wonderful flavours. It had just the right balance of creativity without any of those over the top presentation or gimmicks that you will see in many modern restaurants these days. It was just fabulous ingredients and handled by a team of top chefs. I would highly recommend Alyn Williams, top modern European cooking, great service with a beautiful dining room to match, it is the complete package.
