Shi Dao, Bandar Sungai Long

Honest cooking that channels a family kitchen: Shi Dao’s chef-owner Doris grew up helping her parents, who ran hawker stalls on Petaling Street decades ago (now in their eighties, they’ve since retired). Doris continues to persevere in her trade; she and a friend took over this humble, hidden restaurant in Sungai Long two months ago, representing the thousands of people across the Klang Valley who work hard to feed us everyday without hype and fanfare.

The food here is fuss-free but fulfilling - mainly rice platters rounded out with minced pork and potatoes (RM9.50), chicken curry (RM9.50), or other classic savoury recipes familiar to several generations. Set meals are available (starting at RM12,90), complete with house-made herbal tea and puddings.

Note: Shi Dao originally opened last year offering rice dumplings, but following the change in ownership, it no longer does so.

Shi Dao
47-1, First Floor, Jalan SL 1/4, Bandar Sungai Long, Kajang, Selangor. Open Monday-Saturday, 11am-8pm.
