Last week when we visited Mid Valley, we decided to try House of Pok which we have walked past several times. The restaurant is usually busy after 12pm on weekdays, as that's when the office crowd will start flocking in. Service is pretty quick though, since most of the dishes are pre-prepared and they only need to plate it up and serve.
As the restaurant's name suggest, they specialise in various Asian (particularly Chinese) pork dishes as well as a couple of chicken, vegetables and tofu dishes. The meat dishes are priced at RM7.90 each while the non-meat ones are usually RM4.90, if you order a la carte. You can also order them as a set meal, with prices starting from RM10.90 for 2 dishes, rice/porridge and two side dishes. On weekdays (11am - 3pm), you also get a free drink with your set meal.
Some of the pork dishes that we tried here include Nam yu fried pork, Chinese wine minced pork, Shanghai style braised trotters, and Trotters with special vinegar sauce. The pork dishes overall were good, except the latter - trotters were tender and but the vinegar sauce was not to my liking as it tastes quite diluted. We also had one of the chicken dishes - Thai crispy chicken chop - big fail as it was served cold so the chicken was hard as a rock though the pickled cucumber and carrots that came with it was nice and appetizing. Baby C likes eggs, so she also ordered the Braised signature eggs. The two side dishes were deep fried beancurd and pickles.
Free drink with your set meal on weekdays
Overall, the meal here was enjoyable - good for grabbing a quick lunch and prices are affordable for mall setting.
