Fashionable Chinse dining den
Located in London Bridge, Duddell's is a modern Chinese restaurant in a former site of a church. One of the cool factors about Duddell's is its creative take on branding, inside the restaurant, there is a giant cartoon character model, and the menu is full of playful artwork design. Food wise, the cooking is mostly based around Cantonese style, with a modern makeover, using prime ingredients from around the UK and Europe. The restaurant is renown for its excellent dim sum and is a popular lunch spot for the local Chinese living in London. For my weekend lunch, I opted for a few dim sum as starters, followed by some a la carte dishes as mains.

Crispy prawn and mango rolls |
Truffle spring rolls |
The first dum sum arrived on the table was the Mongolian wagyu puff, the pastry work was excellent, it had the right level of crispness and the peppery tone of the beef filling was loaded with luxurious richness. The main event of the meal was the Duddell’s supreme lobster noodles, the lobster broth was loaded with so much seafood aroma and taste, it was a whirlpool of sweet umami sensation. The lobster itself was cooked perfectly, really moist and the noodles absorbed all the beautiful lobster essence. The xo sauce scallop egg white fried rice was also done expertly, it had a soft wok aroma and loaded with plenty of fresh scallops. The xo sauce acted as a seasoning, it added a great depth of salty and savoury taste to the rice.

For my fourth meal at Duddell's, it delivered another high-quality meal. The dishes were not authentic if you compare it to what you can find in China that is for sure, but taste wise it was very enjoyable and the modern take on the menu has created new taste dimeson that you normally would not be able to find in a classic Chinese restaurant. The price is toward the fine dining end, but you can always visit for lunch for the much more affordable set lunch or dim sum meal, to experience some of the finest modern Chinese cuisines in London.
