Malaysian-brewed beers that cost as low as RM10 per glass, in mind-bending, mould-breaking varieties like Bak Kut Teh, Lemongrass Sour, Chrysanthemum or Chocolate Coffee: Have the lovable lunatics at Ales & Lagers and The Great Beer Bar finally gone stark-raving insane?
There's a method to this Modern Madness new range of beers, a mission to offer an independent take on craft beer that won't break the bank. At least one type will be available on tap at both Solaris Dutamas' Ales & Lagers and Damansara Uptown's The Great Beer Bar for now; when we visited recently, the Cascade Session New England IPA was a soothing balm for a sultry afternoon, smooth and lightly creamy, more fruity and floral than bitter. Other more experimental drafts will be showcased from time to time - could we petition for a Pineapple Tart beer for Chinese New Year?
