Viennese breakfast in style

Vienna is known for its cafes and top pastries, so for any hardcore coffee and desserts fans, a visit to a local cafe is a must when taking a trip to Vienna. Located nearby the stunning Hofburg Palace, Café Central is somewhat an iconic landmark itself. The interior is seriously impressive with a charming old-school vibe, the cafe is best known for its legendary pastries. I visited Café Central for a lazy weekday breakfast treat, and I opted for its super-size continental breakfast, as well as trying 4 types of desserts. For lunch, the cafe offers a great value for money Viennese 2 course set menu, containing all-time classics such as the beef soup and roasted meat.

The big breakfast |
For my breakfast, it came on a giant plate with so much food, from egg, ham, cheese to a selection of bread. The bread tasted fresh and still very moist, as the egg was blended finely. The main event has to be the wonderfully looking pastries. The classic Viennese apple strudel was sensational, the pastry was so thin and crispy, and the filling had the perfect balance of apple and cinnamon, it was easily the best apple based pastry I have ever encountered. The peanut butter and dark chocolate cake was just as good, nice nutty note with a touch of bitterness and not overly sweet.

Vienna is known for its excellent pastries and Cafe Central has totally matched that expectation. Everything looked amazing, well crafted, and the taste also delivered. To top it off, enjoying such good quality pastries and sipping a cup of coffee in such a grand setting also made it extra special. It is hard to judge breakfast but I got to say the pastries at Cafe Central is well worth a try if you want to experience the true Viennese coffee and cake culture.
