If you've been seeing pink elephants in KLCC this month, fear not, you haven't been hallucinating. The cuddly-looking creature is the mascot of Belgium's famed beer haven Delirium Cafe, which has launched its first Southeast Asian franchised outpost in the shadow of the Petronas Twin Towers.
Back home in Brussels, Delirium Cafe is known for an encyclopedic beer selection; the Guinness Book of Records once recorded over 2,000 brands on Delirium's list. While this Malaysian offshoot naturally has far fewer, there's still an extensive range to tempt enthusiasts, from bottled choices such as Trappist ales (RM45 for the Westmalle Triple) to about a dozen possibilities on tap, potentially including Floris Kriek cherry beer (RM35) and of course, the popular Delirium Tremens (RM37).
Moules-frites helps to complete the experience - 500 grams of mussels, steamed in a choice of gravy and served with fries (RM89; we picked the classic preparation with white wine sauce, shallots, garlic, parsley, rosemary and bay leaves). Of course, there are waffles too, which can be topped with your preference of ice cream and sauces - the logical choice is a waffle with beer ice cream (RM29), paired perhaps with a beer cocktail (the Delirium Sour, a beery twist on the whisky sour is RM31).
Service is fast and friendly, making Delirium a solid choice for customers seeking a new watering hole in the city centre.
