Give me a bowl of noodles any day and I'll be a happy girl.
We recently discovered a new place in Cheras to satisfy our noodle cravings. When I first saw the restaurant name, I thought of the cute Japanese blue cat but you won't find any signs of Doraemon inside the restaurant. :P
Instead, you will find a collection of local street food such as pan mee, economy rice, curry laksa, chee cheong fun, char koay teow, steamed buns and the stall that we visited which specialises in noodles such as fish paste noodles with milk, seafood noodles, pork noodles and fish head noodles.
Restoran Doremon
Hubby went for the fish fillet noodles (RM10) which comes with slices of sek pan (garoupa) fish, tomato, ginger and your choice of noodles. The chef was pretty generous with the Shaoxing wine hence the soup tasted really fragrant and delicious, with an appetizing tang from the tomatoes too. I couldn't resist stealing some of Hubby's soup, as I loved the taste.
I had the pork noodles (RM5.50 for small) which I found to be pretty decent. I still prefer the pork noodles from Machi which is more robust; the soup here is clearer and lighter in flavour. The portion is generous, with minced pork, pork slices and pork balls.
On another visit, I tried the fish paste noodle with milk (RM7). There was about 6-7 pieces of the fish paste; the texture was bouncy, I enjoyed this. The chef adds evaporated milk to the soup for a milky, creamy finish. This comes with a tangy, spicy chilli dip which was very nice too.
Hubby had the curry laksa from the next stall (RM6.50 for small) and it turned out to be pretty good too. The curry laksa broth was nicely spiced and creamy; squeeze in the lime to give it an extra zing. The laksa comes with cockles, deep fried pigs skin, tofu puff and steamed chicken as well as long beans and brinjal. The same stall also sells chee cheong fun and yong tau foo.
Opening times: 7am to 1.30pm daily. Closed on Sundays.
