Pintxos heaven
Slow-roasted suckling pig |
Located right next to the San Telmo museum in San Sebastian, La Cuchara de San Telmo is a tiny pintxo bar that has a big reputation, owned by the same people behind another successful pintxo bar Borda Berri. La Cuchara de San Telmo is all about dishing up simple pintxos that packed with impactful flavours and freshly cooked to order, using the amazing ingredients around the Basque Country. The bar has no seating and is always busy, so best come extra early, otherwise, you might risk be waiting a while as this is an extremely popular bar that loves by the locals as well.

I got nothing but love for the roasted cod jowls that was served with a cauliflower puree, cooked to perfection, seasoned to perfection, tasted perfect, I can happily eat another dozen of those jowls. La Cuchara de San Telmo is known for its slow-cooked veal cheek, cooked in red wine with a beautiful moist texture, it was such a comforting winter dish. The slow roasted suckling pig had a melt in your mouth texture and lovely crispy skin, it was sensational and one of the finest thing I have eaten at my San Sebastian trip, faultless.

What can I say, the cooking at La Cuchara de San Telmo was truly fantastic, I ended up pretty much-ordered everything on the menu, and not one single dish disappointed me. On top of that, the service, for a bar level, was really top notch, very caring and offer some great suggestion about what to order. What I really like about the food is they offer every single dish in pintxo, starter, and main course sizes, so you can be very flexible with the food order. However, if you ask me, I would advise you try everything!
