The love for baking burns bright at this terrific new space for fresh-from-the-oven temptations, produced with inspiring skill by Du Pan founders Johnny and Sky.
Start with the salt beef sandwich, a testament to patience and passion - the brisket is brined for 10 days, then slow-cooked for eight hours, served in ciabatta that took two days to prepare. The result is ravishing, providing the perfect balance of succulent meat and textured bread. RM21.
Pizzas are also a pleasure - the four-cheese is a familiar favourite with a few twists, made with a naturally leavened spelt sourdough base that's healthier and denser than the norm, blanketed with a choice of cheeses that hinges on what's available (ours included Emmental and blue), flavoured further with mustard and spices. RM38.
No chicken-or-egg dilemma at Du Pan - order both, in the form of eggs with toast, beef pastrami, chickpeas, mushrooms and roasted capsicum (RM21) and braised chicken leg with lemon and herbs, toast and a side salad (RM24). Wholesome meals that satisfy; Du Pan uses free-range eggs and chicken, as well as organic flour, so it's worth the premium.
Coffee beans are also conscientiously sourced, coming from KL-based independent Japanese roaster Kato-san (RM10 each for a lovely white and a 'rusty' that comprises chilled milk with a shot of espresso). Also try the hot chocolate (RM10) and the invigorating house-made lemonade (RM10).
Service sparkles with warmth and cheerful enthusiasm. The setting is calm and commodious, buoyed by leafy views outside.
