Johann's Biereck @ Vienna International Airport, Leroy Bistro @ Budapest Ferenc Liszt Airport, Burgerlab & Selamlique @ Istanbul Atatürk Airport

Johann's Biereck gives airport restaurants a good name - warm service, bolstered by a very satisfying meal of succulent deep-fried breaded chicken with lamb's lettuce, potato mash & Styrian pumpkin seed oil. Not a shabby way to bid farewell to Austria.





Leroy Bistro is perfectly serviceable if you need some sustenance while waiting for your flight at Budapest's airport, though the veal ragout soup & Zwack plum liqueur cocktail will likely fade from your memory by the time you reach your next destination.

Burgerlab gives airport restaurants a bad name - surly service, with a burger that conveys purely salty dimensions of flavour.

Trapped in transit for five hours in Turkey's international airport? Take refuge at Selamlique Istanbul, which offers eight types of Turkish coffee (try the one with a mastic finish), sugary fig-&-walnut pound cakes & bitter almond liqueur to help pass the time.
