There is something extremely relaxing and therapeutic about sitting down, sipping tea and enjoying cakes and desserts from your afternoon tea set. I often get emails from my readers asking where the best afternoon tea is in KL, so I am pleased to share my list of five best afternoon teas in KL here.

1. The Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

Afternoon tea is a quintessentially English experience and The Tea Lounge at The Majestic Hotel KL offers the perfect setting with its sumptuous and elegant colonial decor, overlooking the lush green lawn. The afternoon tea is served in dainty fine bone china, and you will be serenaded by a live pianist who plays here daily except Mondays. Service is also impeccable and welcoming.

Price: RM60 nett per person on weekdays, RM70 nett per person on weekends and PH.

2. The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur

KL's very own The Ritz-Carlton adds glamour to afternoon tea with a four-piece musical ensemble which serenades you while you indulge in your scones and tea. The newly renovated Lobby Lounge is comfortable and luxurious, and offers a wide selection of Ronnefeldt tea -there is even a tea crafted exclusively for the hotel, The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur Blend - all served in delicate fine bone china.

First class service, refined ambiance and delicious bites makes this one of my favorite spots for afternoon tea in KL.

Price: RM80 nett for two persons on weekdays and RM80 nett per person on weekends.

3. Hilton Kuala Lumpur

The high ceilings and chandeliers in The Lounge in Hilton KL make for a grand setting for afternoon tea. Guests can choose to either have the 3-tier afternoon tea (non-refillable), served in elegant bird cages or the afternoon tea buffet with unlimited servings of delectable pastries, scones and savouries.

Price: RM90 nett for 3-tier afternoon tea or RM120 nett for afternoon tea buffet.

Available daily from 3pm to 6pm.


4. Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur

Afternoon tea time is always an exciting affair at Mandarin Oriental KL. In the past year, the hotel has had numerous collaborations with big names in fashion such as Chopard, Anya Hindmarch and Roger Vivier as well as notable pastry chef Andres Lara. Fun, quirky and always delicious, there is always bound to be something unique that will catch your eye.

Price: RM128 nett per stand.

Available daily from 2.30pm to 6pm.


5. InterContinental Kuala Lumpur

Sip your cup of tea in the elegant lounge fringed by a tropical garden and a cascading waterfall. There are two types of Afternoon Teas to choose from here - you can go for the traditional English experience or a Malaysian-infused afternoon tea set.

Price: RM92 nett per set.

Available daily from 2pm to 5pm.
