Christmas at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur is always a joyous and majestic affair. Last week, we were the lucky few to be invited to the hotel to sample the festive menu from Colonial Cafe as well as  witness the launch of the hotel's first Christmas CD by The Solianos.

A glass of warm mulled wine, with The Solianos playing a Christmas number and Christmas trees twinkling in the background, definitely set the Christmas mood.  The menu we sampled that evening was the Christmas Eve Menu, starting with the amuse bouche of smoked salmon with creme fraiche and fresh dill.

Cheers Hubby!

Next came the Seared Bay Scallops, served with white asparagus and broad bean puree. The scallops were plump and complemented well with the creamy puree. This was paired with the Huntaway Malborough Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand.

The Australian red onion soup was light and packed full of flavour, served with crisp Gruyere toasts.

The Solianos made excellent dinner company, as they serenaded us with their renditions of classic holiday jingles. The Majestic Christmas Album is the first Christmas album released by the hotel and features cover versions of popular Christmas classics such as Jingle Bells, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and Winter Wonderland, all injected with the The Solianos signature singing style. The album is available for purchase at The Majestic Hotel KL at RM60 nett, and can also be purchased on Spotify and iTunes. We managed to get a signed copy from the members of the band - lucky us! ;)

For main course, we had Hickory-smoked roasted turkey with mashed parsnip, roasted root vegetables, stuffing and giblet gravy. As I took my first bite of the turkey, I can't help but notice how moist the meat was. We often hear of dry, tasteless turkey but this was really good - moist, juicy with a smoky flavour. This was served with Sister's Run Epiphany McLaren Val Shiraz, Australia. On the actual menu, guests will also be served a mid-course of pan seared cod and for mains, you can opt for turkey or slow-roasted short ribs.

Dessert was a beautiful, festive-looking Orange parfait with cinnamon crumble, and grapefruit sherbet. The sherbet was tart and did a great job in cutting some of the richness from the parfait. Finally, a hot cup of coffee or tea is served along with some Christmas cookies and chocolates.

A truly wonderful evening, with good food, music and company. The Christmas Eve Dinner Menu is priced at RM280 nett per person (without wine), or RM380 nett per person (with wine pairing). There will also be a Christmas Day and New Year's Eve Dinner Menu available at Colonial Cafe, as well as international buffet at Contango - click here for full menu and prices.
